It's all come to this, folks...
Image VS Image

One week ago, in a stunning upset heard 'round Vancouver and the hockey world, Team USA stole first place in the group and first overall heading into the elimination round from Canada in a tale of two goaltenders, with heart and grit providing the subplot. Ryan Miller played light's-out while Martin Brodeur played burnt-out. Too many turnovers plagued Canada, as American forces pounced on every juicy opportunity and cashed in with aplomb.

Since then, the world has turned upside down yet again. Canada looks like an unstoppable engine of devastation with Mike Babcock behind the controls as line combinations fall into place and Roberto Luongo steadies the team with his play between the pipes. The entire roster came alive and the five-man units pounded both Russia and Slovakia into submission. At the other end of the bracket, Team USA has found the groove it had been looking for. Dominating for nearly entire games with salvo after salvo of shot and dozens of blocked shots spread around the entire roster, the Yankees have gone from a team no one gave a chance to medal to a possible snake in the grass for the host favorites.

Can Crosby, Skills, and Nash take an entire nation off of suicide watch, or will Inglourious Backes, 20 Cent, Captain Clutch, and the Millercle on Ice avenge the "Curse of the Loonie" in 2002?

Let's...play...some...HOCKEY!!!

Do you believe in Millercles?!? YES!!!

When it was Russia vs Canada I predicted on facebook that Russia would play bad defence and we would roll them. In the Canada vs Slovakia GDT I said Halak would keep it closer than it should be but Canada would take it in the end. Here I am going to say that this game goes to OT. From there its anybody's game.

Phil, another epic GDT for another epic game. I can't wait for this game but I am scared to death because the way Canada has been playing.

I'm sure they're just as scared of us as we are of them.

Canada is not playing that great. They looked like pansies in the third against Slovakia. Had Demitra had any finishing ability, Slovakia could have won that game 4-3.

Hell, Halak really wasn't even required to make any realllly big saves.

WE CAN DO THIS!

The USA will have to play a better game and keep the SOG closer to even if they expect to win again. It was a great effort in the last match-up, but you just can't expect to win being outshot 45-23 (or whatever it was). No matter who wins it should be a great game though.

When I watched the 1996 World Cup win over Canada behind Mike Richter (probably my favorite all-time goalie) I thought that it probably couldn't get any better than that. This gold medal game is already matching that level of drama, and with Miller in net gives it the extra home town edge.

I wish I could be up around WNY, or anywhere near the border, to be in a packed bar full of US and Canadian fans ready to stab each other over this game. Instead I have to be at work with people who don't even know the rules or any player in the game.

Everyone says Canada has picked up their game, but I don't think they looked all that impressive against Slovakia.

Meanwhile, ever since the Canadian game, USA has progressively gotten better and better.

I agree that they'll need to be better than they were the last time they played Canada, but I also don't think that's going to be an issue.

Time will tell.

Both teams look better then their first matchup.

But Canada still has flaws with their goaltending, and they seem to play when they feel like it.

But they would need all four lines playing perfectly to win this game and same with the USA team.

The Russian game the first two lines didn't score and the third and fourth did, yet they won in great fashion, but against Slovakia it seems they weren't close to the intensity of the Russian game.

Nah man, Luongo has been playing solid. He's no flaw.

Slovakia played shut down defence like New Jersey does. Canada had a tough time trying to get things going. They sat back for a bit in the third and we see the result.

If both teams bring their game, it will be a one to remember! But if this does happen, Miller has to be superb or look out.
