Whaaaaaaaaat? Okay. It's my own thread. Some of you have followed my trials and tribulations. I think I'm the only Military Mom here? Anyway, I'm just going to post here when I have anything to say about my son. No one has to reply I'm just so proud of him. I'm assuming I'll know by the end of November where he'll be duty stationed or deployed.. He is one of 62% that passed Basic Combat Training (155 out of 250 made it). He was held back an additional week in AIT (Advanced Individual Training) and needed glasses for one eye being 20/25 He hated the first few days of AIT because it was an 8 hour day in a classroom setting. I received many a call saying; "I want to come home." My reply? ---> "If you hate studying there, imagine sitting in class doing the same thing here then owing money (student loans) when you're being paid to defend our country" My son, well, his entire attitude changed after that last call. Each and every time I speak with him now, he is a soldier. Sorry this is all so random He is loving AIT now and driving big ass trucks and protecting our butts |

It's so nice to see how proud you are, Schony, and rightfully so. I think it's great what your son is doing. |

Well Schony, Tell your son to stay focused, or this old 1st Sgt. will Hooah his ass for ya Congrats Schony, and seriously, a little advice for him if he ends up in the ToO "Keep your wits about you, watch your buddies back and for god's sakes, make sure your point man and your SAW operator don't fuck up. He should be just fine, he is serving with the finest men and women on the planet. God speed to him and his comrades. |

The price of Freedom is NOT free. Thankfully, we have dedicated men and women committed to protecting our basic freedoms, no matter the cost. They willingly face danger in combat zones, knowing full well they may not make it out of there alive, or completely intact. I don't know that I could have done what all those have done before me, or those who will sign on for the job after me.... Reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw somewhere: "If you are reading this, thank a teacher. If you are reading this in English, thank a soldier." |

I spoke with my son this morning who claims some in his platoon have found out were they're being deployed or duty stationed (Germany seemed to be popular right now). We're hoping to find out soon in order to better prepare for the inevitable. On a lighter note, it's funny what can put a big smile on a Soldiers face. Yum Yum. Goldfish. A canteen filled with water. A real sweatshirt worn for the first time on a day off in the barracks only. |

Skyline_BNR34 wrote: Tell him we all love him also Schony. I will Aaron. Thanks! I brought him (actually he drove me ) to one m-n-g and he really had a good time. He played pool with Mel & Jon (DBTG). He still talks about it. Maybe another m-n-g is in order around the Holidays while he's home before deployment. That would be really cool |

God bless him, Schony. He's a handsome kid. You should be VERY proud! He's doing a great thing for our country. Two of my friends left for basic on November 9th. Not quite the same as being a military mom, but I couldn't really grasp the reality of what's going on in the world until I knew that I had friends being tossed into the middle of it. It really changes your perspective. It sounds like you've done a wonderful job to encourage and prepare him. He'll do brilliantly, no doubt! God speed. |

End The Curse wrote: Most importantly, may he kill everything he shoots at and come home safe and sound. Oh, he will See this medal? He got it for marksmanship - 47 out of 50. Only one person in the entire platoon scored higher than him with 48. We're talking about a SOCOM gamer here And Phil, he does look bad ass doesn't he? The transformation has been incredible. Thanks all for your support. I'm not trying to divide the ranks here, just have my own thread where I can continue to post random thoughts. Last I heard, he will go to Ft. Drum, but that could change after tonight. |
