Well sad for Mair... really sad... but like I said in the other thread about getting a verteran scorer, we shoulda tried to get Nylander... to late now.

Does this mean McCormick is coming up? Or are we making a trade? This is very interesting, VERY interesting move.

Thanks to Mair for giving max effort all the time, and being a total team guy with the recent demotion, and I'm sure through this process of being waved.

...Mair's a pro. He'll play where he's needed.

If someone picks him up...well, I hope he does well.

Seems like Darcy's planning to do something.

This is very interesting indeed because it may lead into a signing or trade.

I hate to say this, but Eklund has rumored that the sabres are current top runners with Miroslav Satan. I know i feel stupid saying it because it's Eklund as a source, but could mair being placed on waivers lead to this? Is there a good chance we would sign a player like Satan?

I hope a move is coming, Mair did everything he was ever asked and provided some of the only grit and determination on a team that couldn't punch it's way out of a wet paper bag for the last couple of seasons. I hope he ends up with a winner - one of the only real "hockey" players we had on this team, not ever going to be a 20 goal scorer, but you can't question his effort.

I dont think it's Satan, I have read several times over the past few months the Florida Panthers are looking to move a player like Olesz. Given his cap hit of 3.1M, I could see this as a tactical move to free up the extra space to bring him in.

Stafford Makes 1.9M on cap hit, given the 1M we have in space right now, that makes 2.9M, and relieving yourself of Mairs .750M cap hit, it gives us room to pick up Olesz, and still have cap space to bring in Gerbe on an emergency call up if needed...

Just my guess, and given that both the Ottawa Sun and a few other sources have reported that Florida wanted to trade Olesz, it makes sense.

My guess would be We'd be talking Stafford, 2nd round pick, and possibly prospect...but this is all pure speculation on my part.

Hmmm...let the speculation begin. I like it. Feel bad for Mair, but we just didn't need him in the lineup anymore and would be better served either bringing up some new blood from Portland or making a trade.

Eh, was just trying to do a little hockey discussion or analysis...it's always fun to speculate, regardless of the source, not like TSN rumor page is any better than another other rumor page out there...

Yeah, I was just saying, when TSN does their rumor page, they are only right about 1/20 or so.

I wasn't debunking he was Waived, I was just saying to call one source more reliable than another is basically like saying playing the lottery has a method, more than it is luck...sure there is some method, but it's still a lot of guess work.

i dont like this move, unless they trade for someone. which i dont think is happening. theres no one in portland in that mold of play that would help the sabres. so... this doesnt make much sense.

I think we're safe here...Regier may not be the worlds greatest GM, but he's not a crack whore either...

Darcy's proactiveness in the early going has me all giddy. Small moves, true. But small moves are better than no moves.

... Especially if these small moves lead to a bigger move.

Good luck, Adam! Thanks for all the memories and hard work.

Cutting Mair loose gives the Sabres the ability to add someone who makes around $2 million with the available cap space.

I have a hard time seeing the big move on the horizon unless this is a prelude to a 1 for 2 type deal or something....
