Mair will not be retained on our roster if he clears waivers. Darcy is just trying to pump up his value so others will consider him worthy of signing. He's on the first train to Portland if he clears.

...he goes down to Portland, it frees up his cap, from the Sabres.

You still have to pay him full value - But, his salary's gone from the team cap.

Something is going to break in the way of a signing, callup or trade. Darcy played up the fact heavily that Mair may very well stay with the team if he clears waiver, and the questions went to that end a great deal showing me atleast, that he was deflecting any chance of further moves coming.
I mean, lets be realistic, if the guy is getting put on Waivers, and he may stay with the team if he clears, then why put him on fucking waivers to begin with?

Darcy has something up his sleeve I think.

I hope so.

So what are the possibilities here. The logic doesn't sit well with me. You put him on waiver... ok.. first thought would be to clear up some cap space if hes taken. If he's not taken then we still have him, right? Whats the logic in doing this if Darcy has hinted he's still gonna play if he clears waivers?

Possibilities:

Call up from Portland, as for who, don't know.

Signing a player, any one have a name to throw out there?

Trade: This one intrigues me greatly, but who could be gone and what would Darcy be lookin at to bring in? A big, scoring center? A dangling/sniper RW?
ONLY THE SHADOW FORMERLY KNOWN AS DARCY RIEGER KNOWS!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I love ya Mair, but I really hope this leads to something good. These little moves always have me wanting more.

Hmm. I think he'll clear waivers.

I've always liked him as a player but this could lead to better things.

There's no substance to any rumor regarding Satan. Since when did Eklund rumors become anything worth even looking at? I know for a fact Lindy does not ever want Satan on the team again.

One, Horton would be a godsend to this team, so it would never happen.

Two, just plain waiving Mair and trading Paille wouldn't be all that's needed. There'd be some legit players that need to get moved. People wanna ship out Hecht, but that ain't gonna happen, and Hank is playing too well with Myers to move yet.

Why was the announcement from Darcy instead of Lindy, BTW? Certainly Ruff had the closer relationship to Mair...maybe that's the standard protocol?

Given it's the GM who makes personnel decisions such as this, I'm not surprised it was Regier who made the announcement.

????????????????????
Tallinder is not to good not to be replaced. I can name atleast 2 guys in portland that would love to have his spot and play pretty much just as well............oh wait, how about that guy that is sitting in the press box now? Patches.
Tallinder needs to go, period. Same with Hecht, along with 2 out of the 6 forwards on line 1 + 2.
If we continue to "wait" (isn't that what were saying now) for these so called scorers to "find" (if they lost it they don't deserve to be here) there stride or zone or call it what you will, this team will continue to play average to below average offensive hockey. Pathetic that we keep telling ourselves things will get better, when in fact, they won't due to the same pieces of the puzzle still in the same positions.

The reality is Tallinder is expendable. Defensive players are ready to step in for him and at a cheaper price. Myers has helped hank achieve his stellar return as a defenseman, lets jump on it and dump him for picks or put him in a multi-player deal to bring in a big, scoring center or dangling/sniper RW.

Same for Hecht. We need consistent offensive pressure and players that can find the net to finish a play on line 1 + 2.

If Horton were coming here...

I'd probably lose it. He's exactly the type of player we need. Skill, with toughness and grit.

Agreed and Mec was right as well, the question is, what do you think the needs of Florida are to make it happen? Who goes if it is a trade of players?

IMO, Paestch is a better replacement for the completely and utterly useless, piece of shit, waste of space Sekera.

And I see where you're coming from, but I'm not so sure I wanna see Myers let loose yet. He's still 19. Hedman has Ohlund, and Myers has Tallinder. Veteran influence is important.

I am in no way against moving Hank, but I just don't think it's gonna happen and I'd rather he spend more time with the kid for now. I don't think he's gonna be able to pull down someone like Horton, even with picks. It addresses both teams' needs, but sometimes a perfect trade is just too obvious to happen.

If this were a perfect world, it would be obvious to both teams' general managers - Florida needs a defenseman like Tallinder because their D corps is embarassingly thin, and the Sabres need a true power forward for either of the top two lines because both of the top two lines is wimpy on the right side (Stafford has no shot, and Pommers is...I dunno what he is).

But Horton is more valuable to the Sabres than Tallinder is to the Panthers, so the Sabres would need to sweeten the deal. Tallinder, Stafford, and a 3rd for Horton and a 2nd would seem fair. Tallinder is rejuvenated and could be the veteran Florida needs, Stafford gives them a replacement right winger, and a pick is always good to sweeten the pot. Horton could use a stint in a hockey town where it actually snows with some talented centers to find his game again. Connolly would be great for him, whereas Roy could play with Pommers on the second line.

I'd try that deal first and foremost, if I were Darcy. Sounds right to me.

Come to think of it, Lydman coming back would be the perfect time to make this deal. Lydman could play opposite Myers, teaching him new facets of his game while playing the leftie parter to rightie Myers.

Vanek-Connolly-Horton
MacArthur-Roy-Pominville
Hecht-Kennedy-Grier
Ellis-Goose-Kaleta

Butler-Rivet
Lydman-Myers
Sekera-Montador (Sabres should just waive Sekera and replace him with Paetsch, oh well)
